William J. Austin

Dr. William "Will" Austin currently serves as Warren County Community College’s fourth president. With the appointment of Dr. Austin, Warren County received the distinction of creating state history by having the youngest President to ever lead a College in the State of New Jersey. Dr. Austin earned his Bachelors of Arts from Loyola College (MD), Masters of Arts from Temple University, and a Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Austin is an experienced community college leader. He was formerly the Acting Vice President for Academic Services and Vice-President for Student Services at Gloucester County College. Other positions have included Executive Assistant to the President for Advancement, Planning, and Academic Effectiveness and Executive Director of the Foundation for Salem Community College, and the Specialist for Research and Planning for Burlington County College.

In his tenure as a community college leader, Dr. Austin developed a new strategic planning process, detailed in his book, Strategic Planning for Smart Leadership published by New Forums Press that is used as a text in graduate schools throughout the nation. He authored and managed over $3-million in new competitive grants for high-tech workforce expansion, community development projects, and teacher education improvement initiatives. As a foundation executive director and board member, he has been instrumental in the acquisition of funds and gifts.

In 2002, the League for Innovation in the Community College (a prestigious national organization of community colleges) recognized Dr. Austin as one of the “Rising Stars” of community college leadership. His marketing and strategic planning systems both have been recognized by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges as models of “Best Practice.” He has been asked by several prominent organizations to provide insight and expertise in the development of the next generation of community college leaders. He has won numerous awards for leadership, volunteerism, and community service.
